PRODUCT: Centipede 416 I have the Centipede 416 with the built-in battery, running software version 1.31 on a 32GB SanDisk SDHC flash card. It arrives on an 8GB SD card which should be sufficient for everyone except people…

> How can I recover when my SD card is corrupted? This condition is sometimes referred to a "bricking" your device. It is unlikely this will happen to you, but if it does, follow the steps below to recover. But first a few words of caution: While following these steps, it is likely that your Windows machine will suggest formatting your SD card. Make sure you cancel these suggestions. If you allow Windows to format your card, it will not work in the Centipede unless you repeat all the steps below. 1) Formatting the SD card. Depending on the type of…

eStim Pods

I have been rather amazed at the sales of eStim pods.  They just became available for sale recently, and the sales quickly exhausted the stock-on-hand.   I expected most Centipede customers would be satisfied with the four built in outputs, thereby making the ability to add more outputs not a big deal feature to them.  But I guess we are not the only people out there who want more.  In our own play time, we typically connect up to eight or more places on the recipient.  It great to see others just as creative!

Keeping up with sales

Centipedes are selling well, actually above our expectations. which is very gratifying to us. Of course, this means we need to keep making them. We thought you would enjoy the picture below of some units that are partly assembled and planned to be ready to ship next month.  It's not mass production, but then we never expected that, nor wanted it. Instead we targeted our design, for a limited segment (the most creative) of a limited group (eStim enthusiasts) within a minority (kinksters).  If that sounds like you, one of these boxes should have your name on it.

Analog vs. Digital eStim

There are two kinds of eStim power boxes in common use today: analog boxes and digital boxes. Analog boxes use specially designed 'audio' files to create electrical stimulation. Analog was pretty much the first way that eStim was done, because computers were way to large and expensive to fit inside a portable power box. Early analog was often a sort of 'do it yourself' deal. Many people figured out a way to use the speaker wires on an old stereo receiver, for example. Eventually some crude digital boxes became available, like those from Folson, for example. These boxes are very…

Larger SD card

We recently had an inquiry from a Centipede owner.  He wanted to use a larger capacity SD card, and was unsure how to get the Centipede operating system use the space beyond the 8-gig of the one we supply. As he discovered, simply copying the backup from his computer's hard drive to the larger SD card did not do the trick.  It would have been possible to use the Linux operating system to expand the SD card partition, but a much simpler solution is available. We advised him to just download the latest SD image file from our web site…

Production

Some surprising things happen as you move a project from BETA to production.  Suddenly all those various parts, that you hardly gave any thought to, become important.  Take machine screws for example.  When just building a few units for testing, you use whatever screws you have laying around, or shop your local hardware store.  But once in production, you need greater consistency for everything, including the screws.  So you head over to the Internet and call up sites that specialize in fasteners, and find to that unit prices are much less, but minimum quantities are much larger.  For example, the…

Marketing

With our clear bent toward engineering, we tend to forget the importance of Marketing. The engineer in us, says build a quality product, and it will sell itself. I suppose if that were true, we would not have to sit through all those ads on TV. Anyway, to overcome this shortcoming of ours, we teamed up with the folks at Current Pleasures, who have been busy this Spring taking our Centipede 416 to shows and demonstrating it widely. In many ways this can be a bit nerve wracking to an engineer, but apparently the "build it and they will come"…
